BsecB install at Hinkley
Concrete is delivered to a slipform paving machine on site. This machine can pave various barrier profiles depending on the mould attached. The concrete is fed through the machine and into the mould where it is vibrated to remove the air. Once compacted, the concrete will stay in the moulded position as the slipforming machine moves forward. Of prime importance in this type of slipform construction is the consistency of the concrete as this determines its ability to stand without support within minutes of it being compacted inside the moving mould. The ready mixed concrete industry, with its national network of plants, is geared up for production of barrier quality concrete. Concrete is generally supplied from plants within 10 – 15 miles from site.
