It is the first in-situ vehicle restraint product to have attained its EC certificate of conformity in Europe for an installed system. It was awarded its certification by MIRA Ltd (notified body 0888) after successfully being re-evaluated against EN1317 under the European Construction Products Directive 89/106/EEC.
Many vehicle restraint component manufacturers (notably steel or pre-cast barriers) that manufacture components in a ‘typical’ factory environment will award CE marks to their components but not to the finished product. It is a current mis-conception that those systems when installed are CE marked when they are not.
The Britpave Highway Barrier offers a fully compliant EN1317 system and a CE Mark product as it is manufactured and installed within the same factory production controls. This provides European Road Authorities with the comfort that there is no need for further compliancy checks nor the worry that components could be misassembled.
CE marking is intended to create a level playing field for all products to compete equally across European States and harmonises standard so products can be sold in any European country freely. It is set to become mandatory in June 2013.
